Part of a baseball family, he was the middle of three generations of Major Leaguers, his father Ray and sons Aaron and Bret-- his brother Rodney was also a Stanford player in the early 1970s. Boone, a four-time All-Star and seven-time gold glove award winner at catcher, played 18 years in the Majors for the Phillies, Angels and Royals. He went on to a managerial career with the Royals and Reds. The Stanford third baseman led the Cardinal in hitting in 1969, batting .311, leading the team in RBIs with 40 in 1969 and 41 in 1968. Over 136 career games he hit .297 with 73 runs and 109 RBIs. He hit 15 homers and 27 doubles during his three years.
