Unquestionably one of the great players of his era, Bill McColl was selected as a first team All-American in 1950 and ’51. He set Pacific Coast Conference records in 1950 by registering 39 receptions for 671 yards. He led the 1951 Stanford squad to a conference title and Rose Bowl appearance and was the first recipient of the W.J. Voit Memorial Trophy for the outstanding football player on the Pacific Coast. McColl finished fourth in the 1951 Heisman Trophy balloting, catching a PCC record 42 passes for 607 yards and seven touchdowns. McColl finished his career with 106 receptions for 1556 yards and 14 touchdowns. McColl played for the Chicago Bears for eight seasons between 1952-59, during which time he earned his M.D. at the University of Chicago. He was named to the College Football Hall of Fame in 1973. | |||||||||
