A standout athlete on the gridiron and the golf course, John Brodie starred for Stanford from 1954-56. Brodie became know on The Farm for his maturity, judgment, stability and leadership. A co-captain with Paul Wiggin on the 1956 team, he earned consensus first team All-American honors in his final season on The Farm when he led the nation in pass attempts (240), pass completions (139), completion percentage (.579), passing yards (1633) and passing touchdowns (12). During his three seasons on The Farm, Brodie threw for 3594 yards, establishing a Stanford record at the time. Brodie went on to an outstanding professional career with the San Francisco 49ers and was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 1986. He competed on the Stanford golf team and had a second career as a Senior PGA Tour professional golfer. | |||||||||||
