The only four-time Olympian in Stanford men’s water polo history, Wallace (Wally) O’Connor led the Cardinal to four straight Pac-8 titles in his four-year Stanford career (1920-23). After captaining the Stanford team in 1923, O’Connor went on to play for the U.S. Olympic Men’s Water Polo Team in four straight Olympic Games (1924, ’28, ’32, ’36). At the Olympics he earned a pair of bronze medals (1924 and ’28) and at the 1936 Berlin Games was accorded the honor of serving as the U.S. Olympic Team’s flag-bearer at the Opening Ceremonies. In 1976, O’Connor was among the 25 charter members of the USA Water Polo Hall of Fame. | |||||||||||
